Caring for Your Giclees.

It is important to treat all Giclees just like you would an original piece of art. Remember that like any original the way you frame it and care for it will affect the life of the image. Do not display your art in areas of high concentrations of UV light or heat. Use correct coloured art lighting for best results.

Paper Giclees
When framing an quality paper Giclee be sure to use a reputable framer who uses archival products that will assist in keeping your print looking good for generations to come.

Do not frame paper Giclees behind glass for at least 24 hours after printing to allow for outgassing, the release of fumes from the drying inks. Always use mats or spacers to keep the print from touching the glass. Once framed your Giclee should give you years of pleasure provided it is displayed correctly.

We offer a shrink-wrapping service for your unmatted or matted prints.Shrink-Wrap

We can wrap any size up to 58 x 100cm so all we need from you are prints, mats and backing boards. You can also include a certificate, biography or other information on the back. While we don’t cut mats and boards we can supply them via a local framer and take the load off you – all you need to do is place the order and collect the finished product ready to sell! Canvas Giclees
Our archival canvas Giclees are all coated with a special UV inhibiting liquid laminate specifically designed to not only add to the lifespan of the product but to enrich the colours. This coating has been thoroughly tested and proven to be a huge benefit to the longevity of the colours of your reproduction.

The most important aspect of framing your canvas Giclees is to use the correct profile for the stretcher bars. We suggest you check with your framer to make sure they are familiar with stretching canvas Giclees. This product should not be stretched to the same tension as a blank canvas to be painted on. If they have any questions they can contact us. We can supply them with Giclee Bars – a stretcher bar designed in Australia specifically for Giclee canvas.

Giclee Bars

Notice the rounded corners on each edge? This allows the canvas to be stretched without being forced around a sharp corner and decreases the possibility of cracking. Notice the groove on the inside edge? This allows you to put as many brace bars as required in any position you want.

A Giclee canvas is made up of three layers – the canvas, the IRC (Ink Receptor Coating) and the laminate which is sprayed or rolled on after printing. The finished product needs to be treated a bit differently to the canvas you paint on. Overstretching may cause separation of the coating from the base in extreme cases.

Even though the canvas is water-resistant we do not recommend the practice of spraying the back of the canvas with a mist of water to encourage tension. Framed properly there should be no need for this.

As the artist you may want to enhance your Giclees by adding extra elements or brush strokes to the final product. You can certainly do this – we recommend coating with Impasto Gel for a brush-stroke effect and acrylic paints for enhancements. Some artists have added gold or silver foil or other media to their reproductions, making each one an “original reproduction” often called a Remarque.
